Democracy 20/20 webinar to assess ‘deep state’

Since arriving in Washington with a promise to “drain the swamp,” President Donald Trump has often called out the “deep state” for blocking his political goals. The fourth event in the will examine how the capacity and professionalism of the federal government has fared over the past four years.

The session’s panelists include:
    •   , associate professor of government in the 鶹Ƶ and 鶹Ƶ (A&S) and the author of “Fragmented Democracy: Medicaid, Federalism, and Unequal Politics” (2018);
    •    Daniel Carpenter, the Allie S. Freed Professor of Government at Harvard University. He is the author of “Reputation and Power: Organizational Image and Pharmaceutical Regulation at the FDA” (2010); and
    •    Donald Moynihan, chair of the McCourt School of Public Policy at Georgetown University and visiting professor at the University of Oxford and at Aarhus University. He is the author of “Administrative Burden: Policymaking by Other Means” (2018).
